25 Years of Innovation in Hosting and Cloud Services Celebrated by Leaseweb Global

Leaseweb Global, a leading cloud services and hosting provider in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is celebrating 25 years in business today, providing mission-critical websites, apps, and IT systems to over 20,000 clients worldwide. Since Leaseweb’s founding in 1997, it has steadily increased its worldwide presence to 25 data centers spread across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia with over 10 TBs of total capacity, representing gains of 32% and 82% in the previous five years.

When creators Con Zwinkels and Laurens Rosenthal were working as professional airline pilots, their concept for Leaseweb was actually born in the sky. Inspired by their cross-border travels and the global expansion of the Internet, they intended to start a new firm that would link individuals and businesses no matter where they were. They founded Leaseweb in 1997, and it has grown from a small team building websites to a worldwide hosting service with over 500 workers from 51 different nationalities working together across seven regional offices around the world.

“Today marks a significant milestone in Leaseweb history and is a testament to the strength and scale of our business model and our responsiveness to the ever-changing needs of customers as they navigate their digital transformation,” said Con Zwinkels, founder and CEO of Leaseweb Global. “Every day, our teams are delivering solutions to help companies tackle business challenges and reach new heights, whether it’s automating back-office operations or launching the next-generation massively multiplayer online (MMO) game. I have immense pride in what Leaseweb has accomplished and look forward to continuing its growth trajectory with the entrepreneurial spirit, core values and customer focus that has defined our company for the past 25 years.”

    Company Expansion

Since its humble origins as a single rented server in the Netherlands, Leaseweb has grown its worldwide network to more than 80,000 servers via organic growth and smart acquisitions.

The firm recently announced the establishment of Leaseweb Japan, which significantly expands its activities in the APAC area. Leaseweb expanded its presence in the Canadian market in 2021 by purchasing Montreal-based iWeb, one of the country’s leading suppliers of cloud hosting, server hosting, and hosted solutions.

Leaseweb is celebrating its 25th anniversary by giving special discounts to both new and current clients on a variety of goods from now until the end of June.
